Recently published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, a study followed participants with mild cognitive impairment for one year to compare brain changes with cardio training versus stretching for the same amount of time—25 to 30 minutes three times per week. MRI imaging of the brains of the cardio group participants revealed increased blood flow in the anterior cingulate cortex and hippocampus. These regions are involved in memory function. The cardio group experienced memory improvements.
What you need to know:
25 to 30 minutes of cardio exercise three times a week
~90 minutes a week for your heart and brain health
Improved cardiorespiratory fitness
Improved memory function
